Street conditions from East Main Street to Northeast Grant  and North 1st Avenue to North 6th Avenue are currently being examined for areas of improvement and overall improved functionality.

NE Lincoln Street between 1st Avenue and 6th Avenue, and 2nd Avenue between Lincoln and Jackson have been identified as needing asphalt repairs. Proposed improvements to the Lincoln and 2nd avenue corridor include paving, curb installation, water line and stormwater improvements.

Construction: Fall to Spring 2024/2025

The project will take place along SE Minter Bridge Road between SE Meadowlark Drive and SE Gerhard Drive. The Contractor will be making improvements to the sanitary sewer and storm lines. While the work on the new sanitary line is being completed, a temporary sewer bypass system will be installed. During construction there will be some impact to traffic on Minter Bridge Road.

The project will replace the existing sanitary sewer line located along NE Shannon Street between 2nd Avenue and NE 2nd Place. There will be no impact to the sanitary sewer during construction.

This project will add enhanced crossing with a refuge island on SE Century Boulevard north of SE Damask Street, and a school crossing on SE 67th Avenue at SE Genrosa Street.

The Shute Road Multi-Use Path is a 5,400 foot long, 12 foot wide bicycle and pedestrian facility on the west side of Shute Road between NE Cornell Road and NE Brookwood Parkway. Proposed improvements include a multi-use path, retaining wall, stormwater treatment, and planter strips with street trees.

Stormwater Management Facilities collect stormwater runoff and remove pollutants before it drains into local streams and rivers. The City is working to repair older facilities and restore their original functionality.

Construction: Ongoing

The Public Works Department replaced the stormwater system that collects stormwater from NE 12th Avenue and drains into Turner Creek. The repairs realigned the stormwater system within the street and added water quality measure to provide stormwater treatment.

This project replaced the existing sanitary sewer line located near 640 Southeast 3rd Avenue which runs underneath several homes by constructing a new parallel line.  A special technique called Auger boring was used to replace the original pipe with a 21-inch diameter sanitary sewer pipe in the new location. This technique minimized disruption to the ground surface, adjacent buildings, rail, and traffic. While the work on the new sanitary line was being completed, a temporary sewer bypass system was installed.

The project installed curb and sidewalks, and added lighting improvements for designated portions of NE 18th Ave, Lincoln St, and Hyde St to increase safety for pedestrians in the Eastwood Elementary School and Poynter Middle School Walk boundaries.

This project added curb ramps, sidewalks, and lighting improvements to designated portions of NW Connell Avenue. The improvements increased safety for pedestrians traveling in the McKinney Elementary walk boundary.

The NE 30th Ave and NE Huffman St Extension project extended NE Huffman Street from NE Starr Boulevard to the future NE 30th Avenue Extension.

Construction: December 2020 to December 2021

This project replaced the existing asphalt along SE Clipper lane and included installation of new curbing and new stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage along the roadway.

Improvements to SE Cypress Street to enhance travel safety and increase accessibility. Improvements include pavement rehabilitation, raised vegetative center medians, retrofit or installation of new curb ramp corners, speed signage, lighting, and other safety features for pedestrian crossings.

Improvements to NE Jackson School Road included adding a cycle track, sidewalks, street lighting, a continuous center turn lane, and an upgraded creek/drainage crossing. The City also upgraded the storm system and placed underground utilities.

Construction: March 2020 to winter 2022

The City visually inspects and evaluates the condition of arterial and collector roadways and prioritizes maintenance. Annual maintenance includes crack seals, slurry seals, micro-surfacing, overlays, and replacement of asphalt or concrete.
