Home-Front Heroines: The Women Who Built America's Arsenal of Democracy in World War II

During World War II millions of women replaced men in the wartime workforce in ship and aircraft factories, government offices and other essential areas. Their presence in the workforce freed up men to fight overseas while their unprecedented productivity gave our soldiers the means to achieve victory. Symbolized by the legendary “Rosie the Riveter”, the women came from all walks of life and regions of the country. Their collective contributions helped pull America out of the Great Depression and become a postwar superpower. Adult & Senior.
