The City of Hillsboro is proud to offer grant programs which provide support to local social service agencies for projects and programs that help to improve the lives of Hillsboro residents.
Arts
Community Arts and Culture Grant
The Community Arts and Culture Grant Program provides financial support for organizations providing arts and cultural experiences to the Greater Hillsboro Community. Educational and social service organizations are also eligible to apply for funds for arts and culture related programs.
Economic Development
Storefront, Security, and Lighting Improvement Grant
The Storefront, Security, and Lighting Improvement Grant Program provides assistance and incentives for commercial property owners to enhance the design and appearance of their storefront façades and/or provide for exterior security cameras and lighting. The program will improve the appearance of commercial buildings in Hillsboro to stimulate economic performance, attract new investment, inspire community pride, and assist businesses adapting to COVID-19. Tenant Improvement Grant
The Tenant Improvement Grant Program provides matching funds to food, beverage, and specialty retail businesses and property owners interested in enhancing leased and owned spaces. Projects may include commercial kitchen elements, interior lighting, bar installation, new interior walls, or ADA or seismic upgrading.
Housing
Housing Rehabilitation Grant Program
Owner-occupied and renter households that meet low-to-moderate income guidelines may qualify for up to $10,000 for critical home improvement repairs, including roofing, inuslation, accessibility improvements, plumbing, and more through the City's Housing Rehabilitation Grant Program.
Historic Preservation
Joan Krahmer Historic Preservation Grant
Through the Joan Krahmer Historic Preservation Grant Program, owners of sites on the Hillsboro Cultural Resource Inventory are eligible for matching grants to partially reimburse the cost of projects related to preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of historic homes and buildings. The program was established in the memory of Joan Krahmer, a lifelong Hillsboro resident and member of the Historic Landmarks Advisory Committee.
Social Services Grant Programs
Community Development Block Grant
Starting July 2018 the City of Hillsboro will be a direct recipient of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which supports public services and improvements that benefit low- and moderate-income individuals, families, and neighborhoods.
Community Services Grants
The Community Services Grant Program is an annual, competitive grant intended to help support programs or activities that address community needs including, but not limited to, mental and physical health, child care, drug and alcohol recovery, vocational rehabilitation, aging, housing, family support and public safety.
Community Impact Grant
The Community Impact Grant is a new pilot program designed to provide multi-year grant funding to a nonprofit organization for a project or program that makes a sustained, targeted impact in a priority area of community concern. The Impact Grant is a competitive grant awarded to an organization once every three years.
Sustainability Grants
Energy Efficiency Grant
Income-qualified homeowners and renters in Hillsboro may be eligible to receive a new energy efficient water heater through the City's Energy Efficiency Grant Program.
Households can reduce water heating energy use and cost by as much as 80% by replacing an old, inefficient water heater with a new high-efficiency heat pump model.
