Tony Furtado returns to the Walters Cultural Arts Center with a trio featuring 5-time grand national fiddle champion Luke Price and virtuoso hammered dulcimer and acoustic bass player Simon Chrisman. Performing everything from bluegrass to blues, folk to rock, the Tony Furtado Acoustic Trio brings an evening of music that knows no boundaries.
A multi-instrumentalist that combines a dizzying musical toolbox with an evocative and soulful singer-songwriter sensibility, very few musicians personify a musical genre as completely as Tony Furtado embodies Americana Roots music. “Furtado is a major musical force without doubt. He has his black belt in voice, bottleneck guitar, and his banjo playing scares the crap out of me” – David Lindley.
Five times in the past 10 years, Luke Price has been named the U.S. grand national fiddle champion. A multi-instrumentalist performer, composer, and studio musician based in Portland, OR, he is also one part of the soul music duo Love, DEAN with wife, Rachael. His roots in American fiddling and swing traditions have influenced his rhythm, taste, and style to spread into soul, jazz, pop, and Americana.
Hammer dulcimer virtuoso and acoustic bass player Simon Chrisman brings an atypical style to an instrument that has previously been thought to have limited range and technique. His inventive and sophisticated rhythmic sensibilities are redefining the instrument and earning the attention of musicians across the globe. Touring with the Jeremy Kittel Band and the Bee Eaters, he’s also performed with Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Mike Marshall, Laurie Lewis, and Seamus Egan.
