More about Tico Gonzalez

Roberto "Tico" González is a Cuban American composer, singer, and audiovisual creator who fuses two great passions in his artistic work, music, and cinematographic images. Merging genres and rhythms of Cuban music, while incorporating contemporary sounds and elements of pop music, his upbeat sound creates an atmosphere of irresistible delight and inspires a get-up and move dance party.

Telling stories that reflect the life experiences of human beings, either through audiovisual art or musical composition, forms the essence of Tico's creative expression. A native of Havana, Cuba, he has an intense passion for the arts and his culture. In 1997, he graduated from the Institute of Higher Education of Havana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Audiovisual Communications Media. He also studied music at the Ignacio Cervantes and Félix Varela conservatories in Cuba. Tico has more than twenty years of experience working in a variety of community and public radio and television stations in Cuba, Costa Rica, and the United States, including last twelve years working for Tualatin Valley Community Television (TVCTV) in Washington County.

Special Guest Xavier Tavera

Xavier Tavera is one of the best interpreters of Cuban music in Oregon.  Well known for his work as the director of Xavier Tavera & The Classic Band, he's collaborated with Tico Gonzalez on a number of projects and performances, including performing in June of 2019 for the Tualatin Valley Creates fundraising event as well as entertaining Hillsboro audiences with the Tico Gonzalez Quartet during the Walters Concert Fall Series of 2021-2022.
