Walters Cultural Arts Center Facility Closure

From May 13 through June 30, the Walters Cultural Arts Center will be closed for renovations. This is the first large closure of the facility since it opened 20 years ago and will provide some much-needed updates to keep the building in good shape to continue serving our community.

Improvements & Cleaning

The improvements taking place during this closure include:

  • Window replacement
  • Siding replacement
  • Leak repair on old bell tower
  • Replacement of damaged kitchen flooring
  • Interior Painting
  • Floor cleaning and refinishing

Staff will continue working during the maintenance closure, including preparing for future programming at the Walters, assisting with Public Art maintenance and surveys, assisting at the front desk of Tyson Recreation Center when arts classes are taking place, and a variety of other cleaning, organization, and data entry projects.

Updates to the Schedule

The renovation schedule may be subject to change if project crews encounter delays. Keep an eye out for updates here, as well as on the Walters Facebook page.

About the Walters

Originally built in the 1940s as a Lutheran church, the Walters Cultural Arts Center is now a cornerstone of the arts and entertainment scene in Hillsboro and in its Cultural Arts District. Housing a 200+ seat performance and event space, the Walters gives the community a place to see performers from across the region and around the world, enjoy youth and family matinee shows, take part in theatre, music, and dance classes, and host their own private events and parties.

The Walters also hosts two gallery exhibition spaces, showcasing professional and emerging artists from across the region. Four class studios are housed on the lower level, where instructors teach ceramics, painting, drawing, felting, writing, and so much more.
