Valentina Ortiz presents "My Father, The Painter"

Inside Mexican Modern Art

Valentina OrtizStoryteller and poet Valentina Ortiz honors the art of her father, painter Emilio Ortiz Sosa, with stories that highlight the everyday reality of Mexican artists of the 1970s. Considered a member of the Mexican art movement called La Ruptura, Emilio’s artwork was deeply influenced by both the surrealism coming from Europe and the culture of the native peoples of Mexico.

An intricate weaving of her childhood memories with the fantastical characters and magical realism found in her father's work, Valentina portrays the man as well as the artist. Come experience tales woven by one of Mexico’s most prominent storytellers who is the “joyous embodiment of the stories she tells.” (Loren Niemi, storyteller and author)

This performance is free and no tickets are required.

Seating is first come, first serve so come early!
