Gallery Reception: Precipice

Carlton, Ken Hochfeld, Sam Marroquin, and Tyler Brumfield, Precipice is an exhibition about appreciating the beauty of natural formations and questioning the effects of plastic consumption on our environment.

Walk through the gallery to view photography, paintings, collage, and mixed media works; then meet the artists and enjoy live music, a hands-on art activity, and refreshments.

Defined as “a steep rock face or cliff,” and “a difficult situation,” Precipice features four artists examining the delicate balance of our admiration for, engagement with, and our collective impact on the health of the natural environment.

Artist Kit S. Carlton displays textiles and mixed media works, exploring the realms of digital and analog means of creation. Photographer Ken Hochfeld captures the quiet beauty of Pacific Northwest rock formations, revealing their textures and stories, focusing on intimate settings opposed to iconic landmarks.

Sam Marroquin layers images, text, and found objects in the “Dwellings” series, which explores the concept of home and its connection to us and the natural world. Tyler Brumfield redefines Western landscape photography by layering single-
