Fire Prevention Week

  • Date: -
  • Location: Hilsboro, Oregon

Fire Prevention Week is observed nationally each year in observation of the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire known for killing 250 people and destroying a large part of the city on October 9, 1871. Oregon fire departments statewide sponsor Fire Prevention Week activities in their communities.

Each year during Fire Prevention Week, Hillsboro Firefighters clear their training schedule so that they can focus on sharing fire safety information with students.

Monday, October 7-Thursday, October 10, firefighters are scheduled to visit seven Hillsboro elementary schools. During each school visit, students will have the opportunity to tour a fire engine as well as learn key safety lessons about being fire safe at home.

Each day the following week, Firefighters from Hillsboro Station #5 will be at Jackson Elementary School presenting fire safety lessons to the entire student body, one classroom at a time. Students at Quatama, Brookwood and Ladd Acres elementary schools will also receive visits from Hillsboro Firefighters during that week.
