Come on down to the Civic Center Plaza on Saturday May 18th between 9 am - 1:30 pm and support our Public Works Department as it hosts its second annual "National Public Works Week" celebration in conjunction with the Saturday Farmers Market. The Public Works Department, Water Department, and Parks & Recreation Department will all be represented with both informational tables and a hands-on equipment display at the Hillsboro Civic Center Plaza.
National Public Works Week (NPWW) is a celebration honoring the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain our transportation, utilities, parks and other essential infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. National Public Works Week seeks to increase public awareness of the unsung heroes who serve the public every day with quiet dedication. Often their accomplishments are particularly noteworthy in light of the limited manpower and financial resources available to them.
National Public Works Week is observed each year during the third full week of May. Through NPWW and other efforts, the American Public Works Association seeks to raise the public's awareness of public works issues and to increase confidence in public works employees who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for present and future generations.
