Winter Lighting Returns to Cultural Arts District

Hillsboro's annual Winter Lighting is kicking off the chilly season by brightening up Downtown and the Cultural Arts District.

Now through March, the enhanced lighting invites people to Downtown Hillsboro to support local businesses as the days get shorter and the nights get longer. The lights create a warm and welcoming environment for visitors to connect with retailers and restaurants during the dark winter months.

Enhanced Lighting in Three Cultural Hubs

Downtown and the Avenues:

Large-scale, freestanding holiday decorations light up the Hillsboro Civic Center entry way.
Street trees along Main Street and the surrounding avenues are lit with twinkle lights.

10th Avenue/Calle Diez area:

Over 4,500 multi-colored lights illuminate the Shute Park Campus, including:
- Sparkling trees near Shute Park Library and the Hillsboro Community Senior Center
- Lights were added to the Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center facility and nearby parking lot
- Street trees along 9^th Avenue and Maple Street are aglow
Twinkling lights also outline the façades of buildings along 10th Avenue.

M&M Marketplace:

Special lights along the roofline add extra warmth to the marketplace and its new mural.

Lights On for Local Businesses

The lighting enhancement program was brought back for a fourth year based on overwhelmingly positive feedback from business owners, shoppers, patrons, and community supporters.

“The lighting around the Shute Park Campus is bright, cheerful, and creates a fun, festive atmosphere,” said Melissa Thompson, Hillsboro Community Senior Center Manager. “Our patrons and staff look forward to it every year.”

By increasing nighttime visibility, the winter lighting creates a more welcoming environment for the community to shop, dine, and support local businesses in the Cultural Arts District.

"We are excited that the City of Hillsboro has chosen buildings along 10th Avenue to be part of the holiday season," said local business owner Prakash Patel. "Our family has owned the Dunes Motel for over 30 years and it’s nice to see how a simple decoration, such as roofline lights, can help bring the community together and help get everybody in the holiday spirit."

The City of Hillsboro has partnered with C&D Landscape Co to install the seasonal lighting in Downtown. The local lighting company also installs lights for the annual Lightopia event at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex.
