TRX

Hillsboro Parks & Recreation fitness instructors are ready to inspire and challenge you.

Get energized in a group class. Elevate your workout with a personal trainer or lean into suspension training.

Whether you train at Hidden Creek Community Center or Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC), these are some of the folks ready to bring experience, energy, and intention to help you achieve your wellness goals.

Adi

Adi Velazquez

Adi grew up in Hillsboro and learned to swim at SHARC. Her fitness goals include having enough energy to keep up with her toddler who keeps her running from morning until night.

You can find Adi teaching TRX suspension training at Hidden Creek. TRX leverages gravity and body weight to strengthen and tone. She also teaches Cycle Strength and sometimes subs for Low Impact, Bootcamp, Circuit, HIIT, and Queenax.

Adi offers personal training and helps oversee that program at Hidden Creek, matching clients with trainers based on needs, interests, and goals. She also participates in community fitness events, like National Fitness Day, Pride 5k, and Get Fit Hillsboro, so watch for her in 2025!

Adi earned an associate's degree in Exercise Science from Portland Community College, and is certified in group and personal training.
Phillip

Phillip Brooks

Phillip started fencing competitively at age 12 to help with his dyslexia. He trained intensely for the next decade, culminating with winning a national championship in men’s epee at Arizona State University in 2008.

It was then Phillip had to deal with the damage fencing had done to his knees, hips, shoulders, and wrists. He started practicing yoga as a way to heal his body and give him a new focus. He found yoga helped him where doctors and physical therapists had not and decided to become an instructor.

Phillip teaches group fitness classes at both Hidden Creek and SHARC, including beginner/intermediate Hatha yoga and Qi Gong, a beginner-friendly class that focuses on meditation, controlled breathing, and gentle movement.

He also offers personal training. Philip completed both a personal training and yoga instructor program at Portland Community College.

Sayaka

Sayaka Ota

The connection between mind and body is Sayaka's specialty. She teaches restorative yoga and Qi Gong at both Hidden Creek and SHARC, along with specialty classes like Queenax, functional strength training for pickleball, and candlelight yoga. She also offers personal training.

Sayaka worked in the finance industry before she became a fitness instructor. She saw many of her colleagues in finance suffer from lower back and shoulder pain because of long work hours at a computer each day. This motivated her to pursue an associate's degree in Exercise Science from Portland Community College along with certifications as a personal trainer, yoga instructor, and aquatics instructor.

She recognizes the power of exercise to help maintain a healthy weight, sleep well, and achieve overall wellness. Sayaka also loves to see the friendly, community environment in the classes she teaches.
