Fall Leaf Pickup and Drop-Off Program

November 20, 2024 - Update

The recent rain and wind have slowed progress and created large amounts of fallen leaves. Both trackless machines are currently not in use due to the really wet weather as they are not made to handle that volume of water. Please be patient as we work to remove leaves and return all equipment to full use.

Round 1 Leaf Pickup

  • District 3: In progress
  • District 7B: Complete

Fall Leaf Pickup Program

City of Hillsboro residents can easily recycle fall leaves thanks to the leaf pickup and drop-off programs offered by the Public Works Department.

These longstanding programs serve to:

  • Keep more than 240 miles of City streets and the Stormwater System clean and reliable
  • Reduce flooding caused by leaves clogging catch basins
  • Prevent debris from flowing downstream into stormwater management facilities and local waterways

Curbside Leaf Pickup

2024 Leaf pickup map English picture

The Curbside Leaf Pickup season runs annually from November through December. A map and schedule will be included as an insert in the City of Hillsboro utility bill in September.

The City of Hillsboro has ten districts for leaf pickup. In each district, the City picks up leaves once in November and again in December.

For accessibility assistance with the maps, please call 503-615-6509.

Guidelines

To participate in the curbside leaf pickup program:

  • Place leaves in the street no earlier than one week before each of the two scheduled pickup dates for your area.
  • Pile leaves – from street trees only – in a row on your street a minimum of 18 inches away from the curb.
  • Keep leaf rows less than three feet high.
  • Do not block bike lanes, sidewalks, pathways, mailboxes, driveways, or intersections with leaf piles.
  • Loose leaves are preferred instead of bagged. If bags are necessary, please use biodegradable paper bags. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
  • Place leaves separate from garbage cans and yard debris bins.
  • Remove any obstructions, including basketball hoops and parked cars, to allow for the leaf pickup equipment to collect leaves.
  • Crews will not pick up yard debris, tree branches, grass clippings, construction materials, or garbage during leaf pick-up operations.

Drop-Off Leaf Disposal

City of Hillsboro residents can also haul and dispose of leaves at two Saturday drop-off events.

Dates:

  • Saturday, November 23
  • Saturday, December 21

Time: 9 am to 3 pm

Location: City of Hillsboro Public Works Facility, 4415 NE 30th Avenue

Only leaves, no other yard debris, will be accepted at these events. While loose leaves are preferred, leaf drop-offs can be brought in biodegradable paper bags for easier recycling. Plastic bags will not be accepted.

Bag It & Bring It!

Bag It & Bring It events are not available this year due to onsite construction and staffing levels. We hope to offer the program again next year.
