Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Now Recruiting Members for 2015-16 School Year
The Hillsboro Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is recruiting students in grades 9-12 to join YAC for the 2015-2016 school year. Applications are due by April 30.
The Hillsboro Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is recruiting students in grades 9-12 to join YAC for the 2015-2016 school year. YAC members work to promote an understanding between local youth and local government by:
• Finding creative ways to educate the general public concerning issues affecting Hillsboro's youth.• Providing review and comment to elected officials and City decision-makers regarding public issues, projects and proposals that have an impact on youth.
• Working with the mayor, City Council, City departments, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, civic groups and other community organizations to create civic engagement opportunities for local youth.
YAC seeks a diverse group of creative, hard-working, and enthusiastic students to participate in numerous community service projects, deliver presentations at City Council and School Board meetings, and advise government officials.
Each year, 20 to 25 high school students residing in the Hillsboro School District are selected to serve on YAC. Students interested in joining the Hillsboro YAC need to submit an application. Applications may be found on the City of Hillsboro’s website at Hillsboro-Oregon.gov/YAC.Applications are due by April 30, 2015, and are reviewed and scored based on several qualification categories, including: GPA, community involvement, volunteer service, interest in civic engagement and leadership experience.
