More EV Charging Stations Coming to Hillsboro
Hillsboro community members will soon have more options for electric vehicle charging thanks to a $15 million grant awarded to the City of Tualatin.
The grant — awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation — will bring charging stations to cities throughout the region, including Hillsboro.
Closing the Charging Divide
Charging locations will focus on community members who don’t currently have access to at-home charging. This expansion will help address our regional “charging divide,” in which a lack of charging availability prevents historically underserved communities from accessing EVs.
Chargers will be added to publicly accessible locations at affordable housing properties and public facilities, such as libraries, parks, and community centers.
A Collaborative Effort
The grant proposal was a collaborative effort of 17 cities, led by the City of Tualatin and coordinated by Forth — a nonprofit dedicated to the equitable advancement of clean transportation.
“We’d like to congratulate and thank the City of Tualatin on their leadership in securing this opportunity for our region, along with Forth and the 16 other cities dedicated to this project," said Robin Straughan, Sustainability and Resiliency Manager at the City of Hillsboro.
"These charging stations are another step toward a more equitable and sustainable future for all, in alignment with the Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan goals.”
