Location: West of the Intersection of NW Hertel Street and NW 9th Avenue

Facility Type: Vegetative swale

Purpose: Built in 2000, the facility provides stormwater treatment for the Alderbrook neighborhood and drains into McKay Creek.

Proposed Repair

Due to the size of the drainage area the facility can quickly become full during normal storm events and requires an overflow bypass system to be added. The facility also requires an updated and larger pretreatment system due to the high debris load it receives. Once the debris is deposited within the facility, it becomes difficult for staff to remove.

The repairs include:

  • Install a large water quality pre-treatment vault to help capture debris
  • Extend the maintenance access road to the pre-treatment vault for maintenance vehicle access
  • Install a high-flow bypass pipe and outfall to help manage large storm events
  • Re-align the outfall into the vegetative swale treatment channel
  • Replant native water quality vegetation where needed
