150 Affordable Apartments Proposed with 53rd Avenue Project
See an overview of the staff-recommended proposal for a new affordable housing project in Hillsboro.
Note: An earlier version of this article reflected the City Council’s prioritization of long-term housing solutions, including affordable housing. However, it did not contextualize the lengthy approval process for individual projects. This communication has been updated to reflect this project’s status within that process.
A proposal for the City’s next affordable housing project at NE 53rd Avenue and Hidden Creek Drive will be considered by the City Council for preliminary conceptual endorsement in November. The proposed project would break ground in 2021 contingent upon land-use approval and final project approval.
Approximately 150 affordable apartments proposed by co-developers Bienestar and Housing Development Center (HDC) would be located across from Hidden Creek Park East (formerly 53rd Avenue Community Park) — a short walk to the closest MAX station.
The project would be expected to be complete in 2023, with a focus on serving low-income families and individuals in the workforce, especially families of color.
This would be the first project in Hillsboro to use funds from Metro’s housing bond. It is proposed to include:
- four (4) apartments with four (4) bedrooms
- 46 3-bedroom townhomes
- 56 2-bedroom units
- 44 1-bedroom apartments
