About the Park

Hidden Creek Park West, designed as an inclusive and accessible park and playground for people of all abilities, is now opened to the public.

With specialized equipment and safety components, the park features:

inclusive play elements
stable surfacing areas
generously sized all-gender restrooms
six accessible parking spaces
and, not to miss, a 50-foot-long friendly forest giant made of cedar

Last fall, Hillsboro community members voted to name the giant “Oro”, as in Hillsb”Oro”, which means "gold" in Spanish.

While game equipment is not provided, check out Hillsboro’s Library of Things to borrow items for lounging and playing!

In addition to the mature oaks and firs on site, more than 200 trees and native shrubs are being planted as part of the project.

Designed to Be Fully Inclusive

While every park in Hillsboro meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, that is the bare minimum when it comes to inclusion. There can still be barriers to access that prevent children who experience cognitive, emotional, sensory, or physical disability from fully engaging with play elements.

Inclusive playgrounds go beyond ADA compliance to encourage interaction and creative play for everyone.

Hidden Creek Park West at 225 NE 53rd Avenue is open seven days a week from dawn to dusk. Reservations for the new park shelters will open for the rental season (mid-April to October) in January 2024.

Champions of Play

Hidden Creek Park West was funded with more than $500,000 in private donations from local families, companies, and nonprofits all with the goal of creating a place where Hillsboro plays together.

These "Champions of Play" made gifts ranging from $50 to $250,000 that helped the project come to life. With the specialized equipment and safety components, inclusive playgrounds are often two to five times more expensive than standard playgrounds.

In addition to private funding, Hillsboro Parks & Recreation received a $3 million federal grant to support development of Hidden Creek Park West.
