Updating Hillsboro Addresses and Improving Safety

Over the last several years, Hillsboro has proposed and implemented two address projects to improve safety and emergency response for community members, align streets and address numbers with the City of Hillsboro address grid, and create a stronger sense of community.

  • The Alley Naming Project ensures safe emergency response by providing specific street address names for residences and businesses whose primary access is on an alley.
  • The Connecting Hillsboro Address Project updated addresses to align with the City’s address grid and reconcile addresses previously based on the Washington County grid.

Alley Naming Project

Your safety is our priority. As residential and business development on alleys has increased, the City seeks to ensure swift emergency response by issuing appropriate addresses for alley-accessible properties.

The Planning Division is requesting that City Council officially name 50 public and 101 private alleys within Hillsboro city limits in order to benefit homes and businesses. The project will:

  • Ensure safe emergency response
  • Help visitors, the postal service, and delivery services easily locate addresses
  • Align addresses within the City of Hillsboro grid

Connecting Hillsboro Address Project

Hillsboro residents and businesses will enjoy better service delivery and a stronger community identity through the Connecting Hillsboro Address Project.

Until recently, locations in the City have used City of Hillsboro and Washington County addressing systems, plus two non-Hillsboro ZIP codes. The Project establishes a consistent addressing system by relying upon the City of Hillsboro address grid instead of including a mixture of City of Hillsboro and Washington County addresses.

Some residential and business addresses are changing as the program replaces County road numbers and addresses with City street numbers and addresses.
