Shute Park Branch Library Energy Usage Down 31 Percent, Saving $5,000 Each Year
The Shute Park Branch Library has seen energy usage drop 31 percent following renovations at the facility that reopened in March 2014. By beating the original 20 percent energy reduction goal, the City of Hillsboro is saving $5,000 each year in energy costs.

School Board Supports City Council Adoption of North Hillsboro Industrial Renewal Plan

Hillsboro City Council Appoints Rick Van Beveren to Council Seat
The Hillsboro City Council unanimously selected Rick Van Beveren to fill a Council vacancy for Ward 1, Position B, following the recommendation of Mayor Jerry Willey. Van Beveren will be sworn in as a Councilor at the November 3 City Council meeting.

New Wood Smoke Curtailment Policy Now in Effect
Working to improve the air quality in our community, a new wood smoke curtailment policy is now in effect to reduce air emissions of fine particulates called PM 2.5, which can pose serious health concerns. Hillsboro’s Economy Continues to Climb with More than Half a Billion Dollars in New Construction

City of Hillsboro Employees Raise $10,000 for Relay for Life
This was the 13th year that a team of City of Hillsboro employees participated in Relay of Life, which is the official charity selected by City employees. The City of Hillsboro’s team has raised $10,000 so far, with efforts continuing until August 31. Overall, the event has raised $153,000.

Bulky Waste Disposal Coupons Now Available at Hillsboro Civic Center
A limited number of $30 coupons to help cover the cost of disposing of bulky waste items are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Coupons are valid through May 30, are for Hillsboro residents only, and are limited to one per household.
